Concert

A few jazz bubbles

About us

A legend considered one of the finest saxophonists in jazz, Wayne Shorter has collaborated with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Art Blakey. When Nicolas Prost, invited for this concert, asked him to adapt his Clarinet Concerto for saxophone, he enthusiastically accepted! It is this work, renamed Sherwood, that will be performed for the very first time in Europe, along with an extract from the soundtrack of the film Attrape-moi si tu peux, nominated for the 2003 British Academy Film Award for Best Film Score. Across the Atlantic, jazz also inspires Baptiste Trotignon, "ambassador of jazz à la Française", for his piece Anima, finally performed in concert after being recorded by the Orchestra in 2021 (Alpha Classics disc).

Did you know?

The saxophone was born in Belgium in 1840. The instrument aroused so much jealousy as soon as it was created that its designer, Adolphe Sax, had to patent it in 1846 to avoid having his idea stolen!
