Dylan Corlay knows no bounds: conductor, multi-instrumentalist, composer, creator of children’s shows, teacher, arranger, improviser…
In 2015, he was unanimously awarded first prize at the “Jorma Panula International Conducting Competition” in Finland.
Trained in conducting under Jean-Sébastien Béreau, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Péter Eötvös, Atso Almila, and Jorma Panula, Dylan Corlay was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Ensemble intercontemporain, in residence at the Philharmonie de Paris, under the artistic direction of Matthias Pintscher (2015–2017).
A recipient of four awards from the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in bassoon, music theory, chamber music, and generative improvisation, Dylan Corlay furthered his bassoon studies with Marco Postingel at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He went on to perform with various symphony orchestras under the baton of renowned conductors, including Philippe Jordan, Myung-Whun Chung, Tugan Sokhiev, and Pierre Boulez…
Dylan Corlay is also a composer and arranger; in June 2010, one of his compositions,*Le Chant de l’arbre*, won the award for “Best Film Music” at the Hamburg International Short Film Festival. He performs solo inL’îlot Bassons, his show for children, and has also enjoyed considerable success with his multidisciplinary shows such asScènes de Mains, which bring together musicians, dancers, actors, and illustrators. He is now involved in the Démos project and regularly leads workshops on ensemble conducting and sound painting, including in Japan and Brazil.
Dylan Corlay made his debut as an opera conductor in 2017, working with John Nelson on a production of Berlioz’s*Les Troyens*at the Frankfurt Opera, followed by a project with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, where he served as assistant conductor on the Warner recording of the same opera with John Nelson and Joyce DiDonato.
During the 2017–18 season, Dylan Corlay was invited to conduct, among others, the Paris Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, the Orchestre Lamoureux, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, and the Bern Symphony Orchestra.
